Shania Twain Stars Live at the Coll0seum, home to Celine Dion, Elton & Rod at Caesars Palace Las Vegas in ‘Still The One’.
That Don’t Impress Me Much……
This is a mostly up-tempo country / pop cross concert with a fabulous light and video show with set piece staging throughout.
Twain even rides a horse on to the stage twice during the performance. Theatrically impressive even by Vegas standards.
There’s backing dancers who distract on stage and a terrific band who steal the show with superb sound.
Here’s Alex Belfield’s Exclusive Audio / Visual Review:
There is absolutely no doubting Shania’s success and popularity. She’s an international brand!
In 1997 Shania’s album ‘Come On Over’ became the best-selling studio album of all time by a female act in any genre and the best-selling country album of all time, selling over 40 million copies worldwide.
This is hugely impressive and a massive achievement.
Twain has won 5 Grammy Awards and 27 BMI Songwriter awards.
However, aside from the accolades I have to review the show that I saw ‘Live’ in Las Vegas tonight and sadly it’s not pretty…
I’ve never written an article like this but tonight I’m so offended for the public who pay good earned money ($250 per ticket) to see Stars like Shania Twain (as did I)……
She’s often referred to as the ‘Queen Of Country’ and even had her own TV series on Oprah’s TV station last year.
This is a tricky one for me as I wanted Shania to be amazing like so many of the icons I’ve seen in this building.
I love playing Shania on my radio shows, they’re some of the best songs ever recorded and produced for pop radio.
With hits mega-hits like ‘That Don’t Impress Me Much’, ‘Don’t Be Stupid’ and classic ‘Man I feel like a women’ how could she go wrong?
We try to be constructive, enthusiastic and positive here at Celebrity Radio but tonight I’m fuming, literally!
Tonight at the Colloseum it just didn’t happen. There was a sad energy and I waited patiently and waited for ‘the 11 o’clock number’ but it just didn’t come.
There were several problems tonight…..
Firstly, the mic settings and clarity made Ms. Twain sound like a really great Karaoke singer – not a mega-star that I thought she’d be. I have to seriously question whether this is the sounds guys fault, or indeed the PA – however, having seen Bette, Cher, Celine and just last week Rod Stewart in this venue, who all sounded amazing, I cannot blame the theatre.
Nothing seemed to cut through. I felt bad and the show fell flat.
Where I got most pissed off with Shania, and whoever produced this monstrocity of a show, was the endless chit chat and selfies which took up almost half the show….seriously!
For Christ sake, I’m watching a legend who wasted 3 songs distracted walking around the audience taking pictures for 1 person and ignoring 3000 other patrons.
This is a huge theatrical fail in my book and it leaves me questioning the talent and integrity of Ms. Twain.
At one stage she spent over 10 minutes talking to people on stage asking “what are you doing in Vegas” – FFS, they’re not coming to by a new Toyota! Shania, you’re better than this!
This is the opposite of the best of the best I’ve seen in the town. Criss Angel gives 100%, Rose Rabbit Lie is hysterical, MJ One is the most impressive show I’ve seen in years….and Veronic across the street sounded better impersonating Shania, than Shania sounded herself.
I’m bummed and truly disappointed.
Finally, and what made me storm out of this mediocre shambles was the finale and miming to my two favourite hits ‘From This Moment’ and ‘Still The One’ which I had waited all night to hear!
TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE SHANIA in my humble opinion. I was pissed!
If you can’t sing the title of your show Live you shouldn’t be there – no debate. Only in Las Vegas has this become acceptable.
Let’s be clear and not dress this up in ‘Showbiz’ mink and mules – miming is cheating your audience and a smack in the face to the $250 ticket. If you can’t sing – stay home!
What astonished me the most is that she went from being a lovely club and cruise ship act to a mega-star in one change of clothes. If you’re going to use click tracks darling, at least record them this century for consistency of sound.
Celine, Britney and others are all rumoured to use click tracks but somehow (and I’ve seen them) it worked for their shows and I didn’t feel cheated.
This is frankly hugely disappointing to me, Caesars and even Shania, I’d like my money back please!
You win some, you lose some in Las Vegas. Tonight Shania wins the award for ‘Biggest Vegas Disappointment 2014’.
Great shame….and worst still I have lost 90 minutes of my life in Las Vegas I could have spent elsewhere.
