Merkules (birth name: Cole Stevenson) was born in Vancouver, British Columbia on 27 September 1992, but his family later decided to move to Surrey, Canada where he grew up and went to high school. From an early age, Stevenson was passionate about hip-hop music and often used to rap verses of other rappers, the first ever tape he owned by Merkules as a kid was “Restless” by XZIBIT. As a kid, he looked up to numerous rappers in the music industry such as Eminem, Drake, 50 Cent, and more.
Stevenson went to a “Snak the Ripper” a Canadian rapper’s concert when he was 16 years old. He considered Snak one of his favorite artists of all time and was able to meet the rapper at the concert. The two eventually began bonding and ended up collaborating. Merkules hit the studio for the first time with rapper Snak and began taking music more seriously. At first, Stevenson took the name Merk Mikz as his rapping name but later changed it to Merkules. He released a few songs in 2012 and 2013 titled “Bacon Bits,” “Canadian Bacon,” and “Hunger Pains” which gave Merkules a little bit of recognition.
