LNER First Class REVIEW….
Virgin Trains is no more – it’s now LNER to/from Kings Cross.
Travelling First Class with Virgin Trains / LNER on the East Coast Mainline is an excellent way to cross the country.
Today we travelled from Edinburgh to Newark – a 3.5 hour journey with 5* value booked IN ADVANCE!
So far nothing has changed other than the name since Virgin departed the route. It’s an identical service on-board – thank god!
It’s efficient, clean, well staffed, great service and a world apart from standard class.
As far as Celebrity Radio is concerned, LNER 1st Class is worth EVERY penny if you book more than a week in advance. This journey cost just £50 each way.
Book in advance and you can get some exception deals from as little as £25 to and from London.

With allocated seating throughout the cabin, you’re guaranteed a seat if you book in advance.
With space to work or relax and unwind – you can sit back and enjoy the hospitality of food and drink during this incredibly efficient service.
Breakfast on London North Eastern Railway Trains…
From Monday to Friday their team offer at table service.
Wifi is available on board but frankly unreliable as you go through the countryside.
No matter what time of day you travel you’ll get food, drinks, newspapers, wifi and space to relax.
Meals will set you up for the day with:
* Fully cooked Breakfast, salmon, eggs and more until 10am.
* 10-1pm – Snacks & sandwiches.
* 1pm-5pm – Afternoon Tea – sandwiches and cakes.
* 5pm – 7pm – Hot food selection.
Complimentary alcohol from 11am.
The Virgin Trains First Class Lounges are a perfect way to avoid the station chaos.
Open from 7am – 11pm – this is an oasis of calm with lovely hospitality.
Offering relaxation and service up to two hours before your outward journey and for an hour after your inward journey, this is a great addition to your trip.
Don’t forget to use the First Class Lounge at major train stations including Edinburgh & London:
At the weekend you can upgrade to First for £25 and enjoy complimentary sandwiches and salads.
There’s also soft drinks and tea/coffee but no alcohol.
However, this is still another world as currently (8/7/2018) the entire standard class carriages are full of people unable to sit down! £25 is a small price to pay…
The Virgin Trains Lounge offer hot and cold drinks, snacks, Wi-Fi, weekday newspapers and electronic departure information.
And it’s all included within the price of your ticket.
Overall I was massively impressed by Virgin Trains 1st Class.
It certainly offers the most relaxing way to get from the North to London at a very reasonable price if you book in advance.
